Enjoy A Mild Winter In Atlanta...Usually
Winter in Atlanta is usually mild, in comparison to the rest of the nation's weather.
Of course, that's not to say it doesn't get cold in the city.
Sure it does.
You will still need to wear a coat, gloves and a hat or scarf to protect your head during the winter months.
You just may not need to do it everyday. The weather can be deceiving. You'll see some people dress for the day based on how the morning may feel to them.
But because they didn't pay attention to the weather forecasts, they were unaware that the temperature was going to drop as the day progressed. Again, you still need to dress like it's Winter. Otherwise, you'll run the risk of getting sick.
We are fortunate to enjoy a fair amount of sunshine during the winter months. For instance, during the month of December, we enjoy an average of 9 clear, sunny days and 15 cloudy days.
The average temperature is 45 degrees Fahrenheit (F), with an average low of 35 F. The average wind speed is 9.8 miles per hour. And the average precipitation for the month is 4 inches.
In the month of January, the average temperature is 41 F, with an average low of 32 F.
The average wind speed is 10.4 miles per hour.
The average precipitation for the month is 5 inches.
And you can expect to enjoy an average of 8 clear days, as well as 6 partly cloudy days.
January provides our best chance of getting snow for the season, with an average of 0.9 inches.
During the month of February, the average temperature is 45 F, with an average low of 35 F. The average precipitation is 5 inches. The average wind speed is 10.7 miles per hour. And you can expect to enjoy an average of 8 clear days, as well as 6 partly cloudy days.
As you can see, our winters are not particularly harsh. You can still enjoy some outdoor activities, if you like to run
in the park or walk your dog around the neighborhood.
I think the most important thing to remember is to use common sense when dressing for an outing in the city. Wear appropriate layers to stay warm, especially if you don't like wearing a coat.
And even though it's winter, stay sufficiently hydrated so you can maintain your health during this season.
